About Purbeck & District Riding Club

PURBECK and DISTRICT RIDING CLUB est 1968

In 2018 Purbeck and District Riding Club Celebrated 50 years of affiliation to the British Riding Clubs Association

Started as an unaffiliated club in 1966 we were originally called Crumpets RC based at Crumpets Farm, Lytchett Matravers. A short spell in Stoborough followed until in 1968 we were renamed the Purbeck and District Riding Club and became affiliated to the British Riding Clubs movement. Averil Dalby became Chairman in 1974 and remained at the helm until 2016 when our current Chair Bob Mael took the reins.

The club has an excellent competition record qualifying for the BRC Championships nearly every year since affiliation. Recently we have been most successful at Horse Trials and SJ and in 2019 our Dressage teams were re-introduced and we enjoyed Junior Team and Individual Senior Qualifications for the National Championships

We welcome members of all ages, as long as you can walk, trot and canter in open spaces. We do not accept lead rein riders. With a membership of around 100, we have a good mix of Adult and Junior members, and we are proud of our age profile which is currently pre-teen to 70+.

Based mainly, but not exclusively, at Moreton Equestrian Centre, we hold regular Rallies and Clinics including two residential Camps every year all of which are open to all members. We are also very lucky to be able to use the Moreton Russell XC course for training sessions. We also use Bovington, Kingston Mauward and Stour and have had  ‘Away Days to Pontispool

Our friendly and experienced Instructors are all BHS qualified, very supportive and have ridden competitively at the highest levels.

The aim of the PDRC Is to promote good horsemanship for all ages and abilities and for our members to make new friends in an informed, safe and relaxed atmosphere.

A real ‘Family Club’.

2021 AGM TROPHY PRESENTATION AND PARTY – attended by over 80 members and their families, the Official Club AGM was completed very quickly so that we could all enjoy the lovely food and drinks provided by the Club. Despite COVID 19 the Club had another very successful year and is in a strong position for the future.
